I've been working with a flipped classroom format in my classes and often use longer group work exercises, sometimes 30 minutes or more. Generally, both student feedback and my own impression are very positive. But one issue is that some groups finish early, while others are still working. Any good ideas on how to deal with that? Currently I ask them to explain their results to me. Another thought was having them help other groups (maybe after checking with me). #AcademicChatter

    @alarith A colleague of mine gives her students conversation questions; in our subject it's useful to build glue within the group even if it's just personal, not relevant to the material. I suppose you could give them a way to move on to other things; assign a writing prompt or another group activity

    @alarith I think having them explain their answers to other groups is a really good learning opportunity for the groups that finish early. Nothing crystallises knowledge like having to explain it. You could also give challenge exercises for groups that finish early.
