Today at 12:30, European Parliament will vote whether or not to extend the existing temporary derogation which allows voluntary chatcontrol: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/agenda/weekly-agenda/2026-11#agenda-day20260311:~:text=Proposal%20for%20a%20regulation%20of%20the%20European%20Parliament%20and%20of%20the%20Council%20amending%20Regulation%20%28EU%29%202021%2F1232%20as%20regards%20the%20extension%20of%20its%20period%20of%20application The LIBE committee decided to reject the proposal due to disagreements https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/A-10-2026-0040_EN.html , but a few days later fractions representing around 397/720 MEPs agreed on changes: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/seance_pleniere/textes_deposes/prop_resolution/2026/0040/amendements/P10_AMA(2026)0040(001-003)_EN.pdf so the extension will likely pass.
