This novel tells of the movement Autonomia in 1970s Italy where students and workers refused to participate in the corrupt society of the time, ending classes and work while creating self-governing groups that planned events, disruptions, acts of defiance, organization, celebration and confrontation.
It also tells of the brutal police repression, the beatings by prison guards and military men attacking prisoners with guns and grenades, hostage situations and protests in the prisons, betrayals and snitches, murder and revenge, the justice system's harsh response, and feelings of despondence and loss after it was all over.
