linux is garbage.

2026-03-13 05:51 UTC

i tried to run cyberpunk for hours and didnt work. im back to windows 11 where stuff work i have dodi repack of cyberpunk,i tested it on ubuntu after i installed the drivers for my gpu. i used bottles, terminal wine, lutris, steam add non steam app with proton, heroic. and none of them worked. only wine did and the screen was black but sound was there so still useless. i searched for hours and tried everything nothing worked. i just nuked the ubuntu parition and bios place gone back to windows. launched the game and it worked fine. i will never use linux again until the gaming is fixed. people that read linux is good for gaming, dont get scammed like i did. stay on windows if you care about gaming. note: this post isnt a ragebait im serious this did happen.

Brother. You tried to run a repack that was likely developed and tested on Windows, and then got pissed when it didn’t work. This is Linux, you downloaded it for free… there is no megacorp surveilling your system and trying to fix every single gaming edge case so that you stay happy while they shove ads in your face. If you just want gaming and want to stick your head in the sand and stay completely unaware of how your OS works and what it is doing, absolutely stay on Windows. If you have the slightest care about your privacy, desire to learn about how a computer OS works, or are curious about free software, then join us… there are tons of people out there willing to help you. And I’m sure there is a way to get that repack working… it may just take some research and actually asking questions in the community.

Sorry that Cyberpunk didn't work for you, that's understandably frustrating. I hope you get what you want from your return to Windows. If you ever decide to try Linux again, you might benefit from asking people for assistance before you get so frustrated. I've personally played Cyberpunk for hundreds of hours on Linux, so I know it certainly does work. There's probably something going on with that specific repack you're using that makes it weird to get running.

  • You are seriously complaining that your pirated cracked game is not running on Linux? Tone it down, adding exaggerated details to your ragebait makes it unbelievable.

Its like putting an Audi engine inside a Ford and complaining that making it run is hard. Complain with cyberpunk developers that didn't developed also for Linux, but only for windows instead. I find it incredible that you can even try to run a windows game on linux. Try run a native android app on iphone or vice versa...

So much to unpack here. Like why you think a free open source OS owes you personally anything especially when you're doing nothing but complain in a small forum.

I've been playing cyberpunk ages on my Linux pc. Installed and worked first time and plays perfectly. Think it's just a user error or lack of skill. But enjoy windows anyway, why did you even bother trying Linux? Windows is great for the average user who just wants to turn it on and not think about it.

Isn't Cyberpunk DRM free? Why do you need a repack? If the bit that didn't work was the repack's self-extractor/installer I guess that would make a little more sense.

Use whatever works for you, man. An OS is just a tool, there's no point in struggling with it. I don't generally play games (apart from some UT'99 match), so Linux suits me perfectly. It's ok to use something else, if your use case is different.

I would suggest first doing the basics first before diving in and trying to run cracked games. I had trouble and had to go through multiple troubleshooting steps to get DODI repacks working on windows even. the difference is there are a ton of resources of people spending hours and hours fixing broken cracked games on windows (dodi Hogwarts legacy has like 100+ threads on reddit with fixes) where Linux just isn't popular enough yet to have a big community find fixes for your cracked games for you already and the fixes from windows often don't work. First try browsers, steam games, streamimg, and light use while dual booting, you can still keep windows for the games that don't work on Linux. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Just take it one step at a time. You are trying to reduce tracking. That is going to be 90% internet browsing, so if you already switch to Linux for that, you are much of the way there.

There’s lots of people, myself included, that would help you out. The only games I can’t play on my Linux install are games with invasive anti cheat. That goes for steam games, games with their own launchers, and games from DRM free installers like from GoG and…other places. Cyberpunk specifically I have a lot of time in running perfectly across 4 different Linux distros. It can definitely work for you too.

Different OS, different apps. When you move to another OS, you move your apps too, not expecting to run everything Windows does. If you really want to play that game, stay on Windows. Although you probably did something wrong, since others can play cyberpunk fine (maybe not the cracked version though, or a special pack for it -- just vanilla game).

Skill issue. This can only be a bit or you are a little kid. Entire week posting some dumb questions on the community instead of just going to the point to try getting help installing things. Your post about piracy in Linux there's a lot of comments saying that not all repacks works and you dipshit couldn't read? You want that shit so much? Just repack on windows and copy the gamefolder to your Linux partition and run the game after cracked with proton.
