On one hand, I think #privacy should always be the default. An app getting away with this is letting other apps know that it's okay to stay unencrypted.
On the other hand, #TikTok isn't really designed for private communication. Access to chats could really help prevent harassment and grooming.
Tbf if someone had private info leaked and I found out the info was sent via TikTok, I'm inclined to judge the user for sending info there of all places in the first place.
