Yeah, I’m aware that Microsoft coined that phrase, but Google seems to be doing something quite similar. Google embraced the creation of an open-sourced Android project, extended its capabilities with centralized software distribution, and is now extinguishing by forcing developers to comply with its new requirements and banning third-party app stores.
