Hello #SFBA! There’s been a recent surge in scam accounts impersonating official Mastodon administrators. These accounts often send direct messages asking you to provide personal information or verify your account. These are fake, and do not require action on your part! 🔒 Keep your account safe🔒 - The SFBA admin team will never ask for your personal or account information. - Official messages will only come from @moderators or @announcements. If you receive a suspicious message, please report it right away so we can take action before others are affected.

To protect our community from a recent wave of scam accounts, we've made some temporary changes: 🔒 New signups are now restricted. We’re manually reviewing each signup request to ensure new accounts are legitimate. This has already helped block scammers before they can reach our community. However, we cannot block accounts from other instances, always consider where the account is hosted! 📅 This restriction is temporary. We’ll lift the checks once the wave of scam accounts subsides.
