The villain is an industrialist who pretends to be on an altruistic quest to replace gasoline with an “all-natural, environmentally friendly” alternative (basically biofuel).
In the meantime he pretends to convert himself into an electric car.

Even at the time the film came out in 2011 this never made any sense. Electric cars ARE the “environmentally friendly” alternative. Yes, I know this is hardly the only logical problem with a movie about sentient vehicles.
