My arguments online are for the benefit of others readers and also myself, rarely is my goal to change the person I’m replying to’s mind. It is good to test ones opinions and logic.

Lets also not forget about the people who are uncertain or people who arent unreasonably attaches to their views that really might change their minds.

Yup. When I argue with someone online, I know I'm not going to change their mind. But I know there are dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of lurkers who are scrolling through, who might have no strong opinion on the subject. If they see a bad point unchallenged, they might be persuaded by it. Challenging that point is for the benefit of the lurkers, not the poster.
