What's something that really grinds your gears?

2026-03-08 22:48 UTC

I will go first. I hate how so many people act like every kind of art or media is now derivative because someone else out of billions of people and thousands of years had a somewhat similar idea.

for me the issue isn’t that the ideas are similar, the issue is from a lack of depth. when you boil every character down to the bare-bones of fulfilling their function in the story, with no other humanity to them, then every film feels the same.

People who don’t care to learn, but want to have an opinion. Doesn’t matter the topic, sports, movies, business, politics, science, every asshole wants you to listen to their half-brained, malformed thought prions, and then insist that it’s disrespectful to point out flaws in their “reasoning.” I don’t mind people being disengaged. It’s a big world, and nobody is an expert in everything. But respect is earned, and being an expert entitles you to an opinion. Everyone else should shut the fuck up.

  • The lack of accountability all the way down the chain. I’m not talking about the elites. I’m not talking about organizations and going after the low man on the totem pole. I’m talking about everyday interactions that should lead to consequences not having consequences.

People who modify their cars to be obnoxiously loud. Makes me wish they’d get sand in their engines and grind their gears down.

Drivers who don’t stop for pedestrians - especially the ones who pretend to not see you as if it means they don’t have to stop at the stop sign. And people who don’t clean up after their dogs. It’s worse in the winter time when it’s already difficult enough to navigate the city.

Very deep and sub bass. Both travel through the ground more than the air, so not only does it go far and wide, it’s also very hard to block. I can use earplugs for most loud music, but even a combo of earplugs, gun mufflers, and a white noise machine is just rendered ineffective against deep/sub bass. On top of being extremely annoying, it’s also not really good for your health.

I hate how everyone thinks they are a subject matter expert in everything because they have Google/AI. It’s particularly annoying when you’re arguing with someone about something you are literally an expert in.
