My first real crush as a teen and all the color in her scarves. The human rights activist who was so soft-spoken and strong. My colleague who smiles through the pain and keeps on doing the best science. The PhD student who is so smart you feel frightened. The Iranian people I have met in my life have only ever been the kindest and most beautiful people. And I know it makes no sense asking it, but I just cannot understand why the world would make them suffer like this. Not that anyone deserves suffering, but I cannot help but think of them.
