the arch wiki, while a great resource, Does still assume i know a bunch of shit that i don’t. which isn’t its fault per say, i mean- if i’m using arch it would make sense that i would, but also it did kind of make things annoying in the beginning and may continue to i fear

@FawnOverFun Yeah, I agree on this. I tried installing Arch a few times before, but I often resulted to either archinstall (which is honestly just buggy, it always resulted in a broken system) or some distro based on Arch, because of how confusing or outdated some of the instructions are. Even after installing Fedora and Debian countless times, I still struggled with following Arch wiki on how to install the system or just how to set up some stuff post-install If not for a friend who is much more knowledgeable about Linux than me, I don't think I would've been able to install it last year. And it was honestly worth it, and I don't want to go back to Fedora or Debian ever again (their constant meddling with certain packages, either to downstream them or to make them FOSS, can quickly become a pain in the ass), but you kind of have to go through this pain first, unfortunately... :neofox_googly_shocked:

@FawnOverFun That's kind of what I like about Gentoo's Wiki, is it tends to explain concepts that someone might not know about like a TLDR on how subnetting works when providing network configuration instructions. Unironically it's probably easier for a beginner to follow Gentoo's installation books than the Arch Installation Guide (which doesn't guide you through installing critical stuff like a bootloader).

@FawnOverFun@wetdry.world at least it's the Wikipedia of Linux tho I actually found an answer for Fedora (like specifically Fedora) through the Arch Wiki lmao

  • @FawnOverFun yeah I don't remember the last time I read the Arch Wiki. Call me ignorant but I just have a hard time understanding all the technical terms so I would rather watch a youtube video instead.
