As a child (and frankly, adult) who (a) loved reading, and (b) hated being forced into fancy dress, World Book Day is a horrific idea that needs to die in the same fire as that fucking Elf. I can genuinely think of no way you could have put me off books as a child more effectively then forcing me to "dress up as my favourite character"(*) (*) limited, of course, by what i was willing to admit, and wear, and that my mum could possibly have fashioned
