@praetor@mstdn.social It's not irony, it's imperialism™️
- popularity has nothing to do with u.s. policy or action
- the u.s. economy runs on the expansion of colonial exploitation, both domestically and all over the world
- the u.s. government protects and serves that economic model with extreme violence
- propaganda romanticizes the imagery you mention. enough people fall for it and/or are coerced by poverty and circumstance into joining the military to staff the constant wars and "conflicts" these last 6 decades
ALSO, white people hating brown and Black people more than they love their own children is *absolutely* a thing. (And imo, a root cause of lots and lots of violence in this world)
Having a child that dies in war is part of serving white supremacist imperial interests, I mean "being a loyal american", and fits neatly into their worldview/part of what raising a family is for in their minds. Teddy Roosevelt said something like "war makes a man of you" and then, though every one of his sons died young in war, he remained committed to racist imperialist violence until his own death. Aaron Bushnell died to show us the truth about this imperialist violence and the genocide in Palestine. Bushnell's parents then publicly stated they still support israel and the u.s. military.
