CAUT, Canadian Association of University Teachers has a travel warning about going to the US, including: Do not wipe your phones. Do not carry a burner phone. Anyone who declares they are a Professor will be searched. The overal advice, which I took, is avoid travel to the US. My NEXUS/GOES cards went to a shredder.
