Initial development isn't the most expensive part of software engineering. Maintenance is. Cutting corners in initial development results in a larger increase in maintenance cost. Writing code isn't the most expensive part of initial development. Refining the requirements, designing, documenting, writing tests, and reviewing are more expensive that writing code. Cutting corners in those results in a larger increase in initial development and maintenance costs. This is a post about vibe coding.

@jbqueru It's going to be such an interesting thing to watch. :-) LLMs could make many of those things much worse or much better and ... it is a seemingly common belief that the adage "throw away your first prototype" is a reasonable one that is often overridden by management who sees a hacked-together demo and insists on shipping it. That version of the story does not point towards the better outcomes. Hopefully there will be countervailing factors so we're not all swimming in a soup of bad code.

@jbqueru you just need to make your infrastructure as code and you can vibe code the environment

@jbqueru I truly feel in a few years those of who have spent out lives as system admins and cleaners of others messes will be in high demand. Seems there aren't that many of us now anyway. Everyone wanted to be a hot shot developer (throwing out had garbage way before AI) vs learning how all the things work together.
