One time I interviewed at one of those tech gov contracting outfits that came out of the healthcare.gov/USDS stuff.
Front and center they had clearly stated that they wouldn't build weapons or weapon systems.
When talking to the CEO I called this "an easy ethical choice". I was trying to figure out where the line actually was.
Before I could finish my question he said "As a Business Owner it's not an easy choice."
I think about this a lot any time "A Business Owner" talks about ethics.

Anthropic's public fight with the DoD about being unwilling to use their technology in hypothetical murder bots is probably less a hard ethical line and more a savvy PR move to distract from all the other harms to society the technology is facilitating.
