Despite what my body is telling me, we are now in a micro-season called 'Manageable Heat' (処暑 'Shosho'). From tomorrow the traditional calendar promises us that 'heat starts to die down' (天地始粛 'tenchi hajimete samushi' - August 28th to September 1st)...let's see🤔

This beautiful waterwheel and pond belongs to Yamanaka Abura-ten (山中油店), an 'oil shop' first established between 1818-29. In the Heian period the original imperial palace's 'one book store' (一本御書所 'Ippon-no-Goshodokoro') would have stood here. #waterwheel #Kyoto
