Not intended as a library, it isn't clear if the 'one book shop' was for storing rare single copies of books, or if it held a preserved copy of all books in circulation.
Emperor Go-Shirakawa (後白河天皇) was confined to this building during the Heiji Rebellion (平治の乱) in 1159.
