UPDATE: Scientists now say a massive chunk of glacier — roughly 2,000 feet — broke off high above Nepal's Rasuwa district and crashed over 1,000 meters into the valley below, triggering the deadly flash flood. The ice-rock avalanche dammed the Lhende Khola River before a wall of water and debris burst downstream. A nearby M4.4 earthquake may have played a role, but that link is unconfirmed. Death toll: at least 160 FOLLOW. FOR. NEWS. #AureFreePress #Nepal #FlashFlood #BreakingNews #ClimateCrisis

@Free_Press@mstdn.social For your next news update then: The registered earth quake wasn't the cause of the glacier tongue thawing off. Instead, the event was so strong that it registered as quake. The cause for the disaster in Nepal and Tibet was Exxon's lies and our corrupt politicians and media: climate change. "This event was initially reported as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake. Additional analysis of long period seismic waves indicate that the seismic energy was instead generated by a glacial collapse and debris flow. The location of this event was estimated from satellite images." https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000tbwb/executive
