What? I just want to understand how everything works and relates to one another so I can make the best choices for all concerns.

This is why I had a break down in high school, when all the world was pressuring me to pick one, and only one, major to study in college, for two or four years straight. I’m always picking up new interests and there’s no way to tell at the start if the interest will last long. How on Earth am I expected to know if the thing I love now will still be something I want to study a year from now? How can I know something else more interesting won’t pop up and dominate my curiosity more? I just want to learn. New special interests are unpredictable, but even the ones that last a while take turns between other topics. Picking one path and dedicating years to it alone just doesn’t work for me, and it’s one thing I knew well about myself by the time I was a teenager. I eventually went to college years later, in my 20s. Life circumstances forced me to relocate and I couldn’t afford to continue. All’s well, I’ve decided to stop pursuing what I’d been studying anyway. Surprise surprise. Now I do a job that didn’t exist when I was a kid, so there was no way I could’ve known it was a thing I’d want to do at the time. The world rolls on, and so do I.
