One thing I gave El-Sayed credit for was that he was up front about the fact that yes, most people's taxes would indeed increase by some amount in order to pay for it.
A common tactic I've seen by some M4A advocates is to handwave this by implying that only the wealthy would see their taxes go up.

All in all, while his 2018 proposal had virtually zero chance of becoming law at the time (& would also have zero chance now until 2029 at the very earliest), it was a serious proposal which at least tried to address a lot of the major hurdles which would be involved. Just throwing that out there.
