I guess in a way this is the central question, but the hype is so extreme that I think it's not discuss directly enough?
It's hard to abide all of the noise that is both trying to create explosive demand for "compute" ... while at the same time crying that there isn't enough.
Seems like many of the big firms have more than they need as they are renting out the excess.

However, even I can admit we have needed and will need some, a few, one or two, data centers in most regions. Not just for LLMs but for the cloud, the internet. Unless we radically change the way that we think about networks and computing resources. That might not be a bad idea. 3/3

@futurebird@sauropods.win Amazon have talked about using the data centres for regular cloud computing if AI doesn't take off, Microsoft also have running consumer cloud computing services that they could use the capacity for- and now they've tricked the taxpayer into paying to build them. I'm not sure that wasn't the strat all along.
