I’ve let this take simmer in the pot for too long, so I understand if it makes NO sense, but… I think type is art, not design. And I’m not saying there’s no right way to make a font or whatever. I just find that valid ideas have equally valid counter points—something that can’t be said for a lot of other disciplines. I think our desire to make type make sense in rational/taxonomic terms says a lot more about justifying its value in the economy than it does about “type design”.
