@mianotapancake@void.lgbt this is kind of the same dillema as the one centrists go through in trying to "keep politics out of things". As funny as it may sound, yes, AI and transphobia are related topics, primarily because most AI services are owned by transphobic pieces of shit. There was one trans person before you trying to dish out the same argument (although lacking any tact like some feral radfem), and I do have to say just considering that it's "unrelated" is okay, but jumping to defend Torvalds supporting the businesses of the very people that want you dead is... I don't know, kind of fucking miserable? Related or not, I still think the self-contradiction is funny. "SJW" means the same thing, whether the context is ecological disasters caused by BP or murdering of indigenous people.Like I feel most people have good opinions in some areas while they have dumb/awful opinions elsewhere?In the corner of the internet that raised me we call that "spineless" :)

@witix@mk.absturztau.be Again, I disagree with Torvalds that the only argument to exclude LLMs for a project would be “SJW stuff”. On the other hand boycotting all companies that actively undermine trans rights would be almost impossible seeing that AMD, NVIDIA, Oracle, Apple, Intel, Qualcomm etc. all directly donate in large amounts to the Trump administration and other fascist entities. Let alone the food, personal care companies etc. that everyone consumes from on a daily basis. LLM companies are not per se unique in this. Kinda boils down to the idea of no ethical consumption under capitalism. On the other hand I can see that you don’t need to use LLMs, but honestly under the current ridiculous corporate pressure to use them, I will not fault any individual for caving in and using them to save their own asses and not starve. If you live under capitalism, there are inevitably products you consume that cause harm to people, animals and the environment. Capitalism literally needs exploitation to exist.
