Which would be fine if modern states weren't authoritarian, and I don't even mean the flat out authoritarian ones, but just your regular representative democracy, which is still an authoritarian system.
That being said, it's not like "free markets" aren't also a hierarchical and thus authoritarian system. So maybe UBI would be ok, in that it would still be a lesser evil, all things relatively considered.

You don't become slave to a state, because the state has no choice. That's why they call it Universal. The state swears to give everyone a salary, and cannot selectively reward or punish anyone. The problem with UBI is that if you don't also include rent control, landlords will just steal it. But with the unlimited economic robbery halted in a given country, a UBI can work pretty well.
