A new study finds that modern vision-language models can identify Aristotelian persuasion—logos, pathos, and ethos—in arguments combining text and images. They substantially outperform older methods on logos, while gains for ethos and pathos are more limited. The results are promising, but the dataset is small and even human annotators often disagree on the classifications.
