top story on bbc news this morning is another horrifying story about travelodge giving room keys to the wrong people. the headline case is the worst of the cases that have made it into the media. the worst so far. there are other incidents in the story.

@Gaolaitch@cupoftea.social @afewbugs@social.coop Had two different people march into my room with a key on the same night in a Travelodge YEARS ago. Front desk denied it was possible with a fine display of gaslighting. Have never stayed in one since.

the infuriating thing is that there are straightforward physical (not procedural) solutions for room security that could and should have been designed in right from the start. travelodge keeps saying ‘procedures were not followed’ and ‘staff has been retrained’ and that is not ever going to solve the problem entirely. root cause: unwillingness to spend, because of the low priority given to customer safety.
