Atha here: We are facing a potential future in which gene editing, whether for personal health or supersoldiers or whatever adaptations or adjustments you can think of, is embraced, extended and then extinguished in short order in the name of big corporations' interests and the militaries of countries, neither of whom have the public interest truly in mind. The reason we enshrine freedom of form as the foremost concept of our work, and make everything we do fully open source, from the funding to the code to the gene editing vectors to be one day designed using our tools, is we know this is the ONLY way to have fair and equitable distribution of the means of health, transformation and evolution in the hands of everyone rather than the select few. Those who are peddling gene editing and therapies for the masses outside of our work are pretty much always in it for the money and have no interest in true freedom of form or anything other than making number go up.
