Okay, so more story time. My Friday's fucking good deeds going very punished. I manage the computers at my mother's church. It pays nothing, I do it out of the kindness of my heart. I'm not even religious, I'm honestly some what anti-theist. But, they provide community services such as a food pantry, community meals, AA and NA meetings, and it matters to my mom and sister. So I help. Go to migrate the old PC's files to a new one. I should have done this a month ago BTW, but depression has been hitting me extra hard of late. Someone had seen fit to change the password on the PC. No domain here, this will be the only computer in the office. The pastor has his own laptop, and the accountant manages her own device. I only manage the network and the office PC, and I don't plan to manage this once my mother steps down. Keeping it beyond stupid simple is important. Fuck, I don't have my iODD with me. I have no boot disk. Found a USB drive in my bag, okay, I can make a boot disk with this. Fire up my laptop and..... it picks today to kernel panic, repeatedly. Fuuuuuuck. Fiiiiine. I'll use the office PC to make a boot disk. WTF? Every time I plug this USB drive in, the wireless mouse stops working. Re-arrange dongles, same behavior every single time. Format the drive, nothing changes. Okay, I can do this with the keyboard. Did you know that the Windows Media Creation Tool doesn't work in Windows 7? I do now. Okay, what can I use?..... Ventoy! Install Ventoy on the drive, copy a Windows 11 ISO over and boot the new PC into rescue mode and get myself a command prompt. Sticky Keys exploit later and Bob's your uncle, I have access to this machine again. Fire up a big file transfer that is going to take over an hour because the old PC only has 802.11N wireless and cabling it in would be a tripping hazard. So, while I wait. The young woman who helps my mom out on Fridays has brought her Chromebook in, it can't connect to any wireless networks. Fine, I'll take a look. After much fumbling around, I decide to crack the case. I don't know how, but both wireless contacts had popped off the card. Confidant that I had solved the issue by reconnecting them, I begin reattaching the keyboard to the case and..... *BUUUUUULGE!* The keyboard bulges up in the center. FUCK! I nicked something and caused the battery to go spicy pillow. So, I took a bad situation and made it worse. So, I drove to Best Try, $200 that I don't have later, and she is the proud owner of a brand new, much nicer Chromebook to replace the one I just absolutely destroyed. More files needed copied than I thought, it's gonna be another few hours. Office is closing, now I have to come back again on Monday to move the new machine to the desk. Fine, I'll install VNC on both of these machines so I can finish this from home. This was a perfect end to a perfectly terrible week. Nothing I attempted last week succeeded, I failed at every single thing I set out to do. It's got me fucking down pretty fucking low. I hate my life, I hate my life, I hate my life, I hate my life.
