@decryption@aus.social @BenLeverAU@aus.social @jamesh@aus.social Sydney was generally better at putting shopping centres next to train stations than Melbourne. Aside from the Northern Beaches and the Eastern Suburbs, and the car dependent suburbs on the TWay from Liverpool to Parra you can *generally* get to most shopping centres by train. As in, you can either walk directly from the train station (QVB, Westfield Sydney, Westfield Parra, Castle Towers) or they're no more than maybe five to 10 minutes walk. Melbourne has a couple of good ones (Melbourne Central, Box Hill Central) or nearly good ones (Eastland, Epping, Watergardens, The Glen). But then many more big monstrosities like Chadstone and Northland and Forest Hill Chase and Werribee Plaza and Knox City that totally depend on cars.

@aj@gts.sadauskas.id.au @decryption@aus.social @BenLeverAU@aus.social @jamesh@aus.social The frustrating thing about Knox City is that it stands next to a dual carriageway with a broad median strip that would be ideal for a fast, frequent radial tram/light rail line connecting Dandenong, Glen Waverley/Rowville, it and the Ringwood line, not to mention currently car-dependent amenities in between. (And also another road that has been proposed as the end point for a tram that would get you to the CBD in 3 hours, but let’s ignore that.)

@aj@gts.sadauskas.id.au @decryption@aus.social @BenLeverAU@aus.social @jamesh@aus.social hey the biggest shopping center in the southern hemisphere was in melbourne a few hundred meters from Greensborough station. (It was the biggest by official published size because it's 90's expansion opened weeks bepore Chadys giant expansion. It was a fraction bigger that Chadys previous size. We wont mention the bits of Chady that had already opened unofficially)
