Just after, the trail has a little dip, with another steep up. I pushed up in eMTB mode, without shifting down, and when I reached the top, my chain sounded weird and slipped between gears.
But it worked in higher gears, so we continued.
~1km further, on the next steep part, it snapped.
My guess is that one side of the piece that snapped had gone the first time, then the other half couldn't last.
Bugger!

We went on (well, I pushed up 20m, then rolled) to the next fire road, then stopped and looked at options. A bike w/o a chain is like the saddest thing! 85Nm of power, 80% battery, but there is NOTHING it can do!
