The following two paragraphs are notable; I don't know the probability that the coming elections in Israel will bring about significant political change. «A new law was proposed earlier this year that would have transferred control of archaeological sites to the Israeli heritage ministry from the Civil Administration, which operates under military authority, and given it sweeping powers to seize land for archaeological preservation across the West Bank. That bill passed its first reading in parliament in May but is now on hold as elections are coming up. It may never re-emerge.» And it is a little ironic that Israeli authorities are expropriating land around an ancient Roman city, given what Roman rule did to the Jews in the 1st and 2nd century.
