#Senate passes #Russia #sanctions bill named in honor of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham [who for whatever else he was, believed in the importance of defending #Ukraine.]
The package would place mandatory sanctions on top figures in the Russian government, including #Putin, as well as Russian #oligarchs, state-owned enterprises & foreign companies supporting Russia’s defense industrial base.

In addition, it would impose up to a 100% tariff on the top 5 countries, including #China & #India, that purchase Russian crude #oil & natural #gas, with #US #Trade Rep Jamieson Greer determining the final tariff level. It allows an exemption for countries that import <15% of Russia’s total natural gas exports & are working to significantly lower their use of Russian natural gas. #law #StandWithUkraine #Senate #Russia #sanctions #Ukraine

@Nonilex@masto.ai Has anyone investigated the effectiveness of individual personal sanctions? Do the individuals sanctioned experience real inconvenience, and is it enough to influence their behavior or anyone else's? Or is it merely symbolic?
