Do your options improve if you use UTF-16 or UTF-32 (whether BE or LE) encoding of the emoji?

@gumnos@mastodon.bsd.cafe yes, somewhat, but UTF-16 really wants to be converted to UTF-8 if it is displayed anywhere, which isn't fun
