@ezri@shitpost.trade On my side... I grew up without computers, TV or anything except books until I was about 13. Then my dad set things up with heavy content filters and time management software so I couldn't go over the time I was allowed. I almost feel like he did that as a challenge, because this taught me how to get around content filters and how to get all the privileges on my own laptop that i wanted to have. When I told him about it he didn't care that I had broken out of containment and simplly said "If you're able to do that, you are ready to use the whole internet" and that was that. Everything I have ever done I have had to teach myself, except networking. He's a network engineer and taught me basically everything I know. How did he do that? He taught me the bare minimum to configure the (corporate) router as well as the bare minimum concepts so I'd find my way. Then he gave me an engineering sample router he had gotten from the company to test some stuff on and just let me fuck around and only told me not to break the bigger network. He may not always have been the greatest dad, but he always knew that I'd learn most efficiently If he just gave me the thing and the bare minimum knowledge. I'd find my way eventually.
