a lot of criticism towards Andy Burnham related to North Sea drilling completely miss the point.
he isn't being lobbied by oil & gas companies, but by leaders of two major Labour-affiliated trade unions who represent oil & gas workers.
same people who called refusal by pro-green Miliband to drill in North Sea "madness" and called him being chancellor akin to having "noose around the neck".

so yeah, as a leader of a party that represents trade unions (and AFAIK he's close to one of those unions - Unite), Burnham is taking their position. that doesn't absolve Burnham of criticism. I think Unite & GMB leaders are out of touch with their insistence on North Sea drilling, especially after we had the hottest summer yet. Burnham uncritically listening to them is, to put it mildly, short-sighted. as a result we have Miliband in a position where he's even less suited.
