There is this famous quote that relates to "seeking forgiveness" vs "asking permission". I hear it quoted all the time and it has never felt right as a philosophy. Sure, it might be "easier" to ask forgiveness...but that doesnt mean that doing things that way is "better".
I have also seen how often people cite that quote, centered around "doing something bold", corpospeak that promotes bulldozong over others, or speaking positively about "taking the initiative"
Conversely, because I have never been comfortable with it... I know that my desire to ask questions and communicate beforehand is what makes people think I lack confidence. Couldnt be farther from the truth
Sure, it would seem like its easier to seek forgiveness after you have done The Thing..... but if we go by that logic than that sounds like someone asking-before-doing is actually *more* confident because they are doing "the harder thing".
Either way, consent is sexy. I cant help but operate on that philosophy, even if it labels me as "lacking confidence". Informed consent is even better.
