Came here to point this out.
Cars as direct 1:1 replacements for urban horses was initially good, actually. Horses had a ton of externalities that cars solved.
But, like, absolutely none of those relate to the analogy aibros are attempting to make.

Cars also have externalities. Initially there was massive public sentiment against them because people were being killed by cars, especially children. That's why the whole campaign to invent "jaywalking" was initiated. You also have to take into account that most people walked; horses were something relatively few people had.
