Update: turns out my wife's framework 16 has thunderbolt despite having an AMD chipset, i thought this was an intel exclusive feature.
Problem solved.

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange yeah, with going to USB4 Intel essentially opened Thunderbolt technology (but not the branding) up
