I hate how demanding people are about being smiled at. A lot of people are really unhelpful unless you sit there smiling at them and laugh at their jokes. Mostly men but I’ve met other women like this too.
A lot of people just don’t smile naturally. Rbf is real. I’ve taught myself to smile and laugh but it takes so much energy. I’m so tired of this performative nonsense. I shouldn’t have to pretend to smile and laugh at my boss in order for him to treat me nicely and take me seriously.
I’m tired. So very tired.

I’m with ya. My natural smile is somewhere between mildly amused and in pain, in beautiful congruence with a strong tendency to avoid eye contact. When I try to smile harder it just looks fake. When I don’t, I’m a mix of village idiot and axe murderer thanks to a prominent forehead, narrow eyes, and downward eyebrows. People who “listen to their gut” in social interactions (aka most people) tend to think I’m either upset at them, incapable of comprehending what they say, or massively distracted. Only those who deliberately focus on my words sometimes overcome this impression.
