@ancient_catbus@jorts.horse one of my favourite historical learnings was that 1. payday lending started as a mob thing, and that 2. the mob basically never killed debtors because dead people have no value, and 3. it was not uncommon for them to go threaten *bosses* so workers' wages would go up so they could pay their debts.
