I'm certain if I walked around my city in Japan, or dropped over to Korea or China, most people wouldn't know or think about that difference Tbh, I'm pretty confident I could walk around European or Aussie/NZ cities and most random people would say that's an Islamic phrase, even if they realize it is spoken in Arabic. --- Does most of the world know that "Amen" is Abrahamic, and that it is also used by Jews and Muslims? Are they all ignorant if they don't? --- Just a few days ago there was a (small) protest against a mosque in Tokyo - protesting its existence - because, to quote one woman literally - "I should probably learn more about them (Muslims), but they scare me. What if they are terrorists?" Ignorant people aren't confined - or even congregate - in one place or country. --- Although ignorance takes a lot of different forms.... Interesting that "call the American who doesn't understand Islam an idiot" is just a variation of "Castigate the infidel" when you think about it... Which *is* a typical Islamic terrorist POV... Interesting. Something to think about when sitting quietly, away from social media. Maybe I'm all full of nonsense... wouldn't be the first time --- Or by "the world" did you mean American and Europe, like so many on social media seem to? Maybe you should take some of that Google & Amazon money and do a "sabbatical" and travel a bit...learn something about the rest of the world Or - cheaper version - STFU about how "stupid we Americans are" (I know you're a Californian) and just accept that a lot of things aren't obvious to a lot of people, and teach I *think* that's an Islamic tenant... #justAnIdea

@codebyjeff@hachyderm.io Jeff, I said what I said. I didn't say Americans are stupid or idiots. I said Americans are uneducated. And they are. As a nation, our people objectively don't know enough about the countries or people that we are so keen to bomb. We know very little about Islam, but have made Islamaphobia a big part of our identity. I have lived in lots of countries around the world. And I'm speaking from experience as well as quantitative facts about how little Americans know. Europeans are 3X more likely to know a foreign language, and 6X more likely to be Muslim. Africa and Asia have even more Muslims and aren't as keen to invade and bomb other nations. Your silly, sensitive self thinks because I live in California now, that I've always lived in California. I've lived in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. My name is Mekka, and I live in the US, so I experience the uneducated American response to Islam very frequently. I didn't calls Americans stupid or idiots, but I am saying that you are a weirdo for trying to tell me to STFU, and for being a little baby about the very obvious facts that the US is a nation ignorant enough to elect Trump (twice!), and start a war with Iran that is destroying the global economy, and throw a hissy fit because Abdul El-Sayed said "Inshallah." I will not STFU. If you don't like what I said, either do something to make your ignorant countrymen less violent, or GTFO of my mentions. If you want to teach so bad, feel free to do that your own way on your own feed. Weirdo.
