@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co it's not either or, it's both. people are already not being hired because of AI mania and kids are deciding against getting into anything tech related in college because the career path apparently no longer exists perception matters here. whether anyone is literally being replaced 1:1 for not, people are losing opportunities to this shit. once this part time work finishes up I'll probably never work in software again, I'm out, on to career #4. the industry already sucked balls and now it's full of insane people too

@deprecated_ii@poa.st @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co had the CEO of my company look me directly in the face this year and tell me specifically they would not be doing layoffs due to AI he didn't even bother to use the word when he announced them not 6 months later.

@deprecated_ii@poa.st @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co AI is a bubble, but by the time it bursts, a large number of young folk's would-be careers will have already been wrecked. Economic bubbles can and do fuck with economies, at scale and of people's careers as surely as a rampant tumor warps and damages the surrounding tissue. Even after it's gone there's literal gaps and injury that will take a long time to recover fully, if ever.
