Tauranga locals hoping to launch from a popular boat ramp this week found a lane occupied by a sleep leopard seal leading to the area being cordoned off for days. Leopard seals normally live around the Antarctic pack ice, the Department of Conservation (DOC) said, but were occasional visitors to Aotearoa during autumn and winter.
