e.g. SSDs are much smaller, lighter, and *way* faster than hard disk drives, and i don't remember them becoming an option as the main storage for laptops until... 2007? 2008? something like this?
like in 2004, everyone was definitely still worried about loss of data in the event that someone dropped their laptop.

@ZDL@mstdn.social @akareilly@hachyderm.io oh but i guess that wasn't a "year after year" thing; we probably did have to wait at least a few years between the previous big improvement (?) and the introduction of SSDs... and that previous big improvement was... i wanna say "64 bit CPUs in PCs"...?
