Last night our Door Dash driver (old man) was really cagey about handing me our food. I had the app open on my phone and said "That's my order, see?". "You don't look like a '[wife's name]' ," he said. I paused briefly and decided not to spend any time schooling him. "That's my wife's name." And then he said that made sense and went hard on telling me I don't look like a woman and then "sir"d me. Usually I take being misgendered in stride and just correct people (because usually it's just ignorance), but something about the interaction really got under my skin. I guess it was a microcosm of what's happening in the world: old cis man judging other people's gender (and gatekeeping my food!).
