@Tarnport@mastodon.green I liked "The Mentalist's" JJ LaRoche (Pruitt Taylor Vince) for that role, but only initially. Later they softened the character, to my great disappointment. When introduced in the show, he was terrifying. He had this static menace about him. And was speaking in monotone. Although, Vince might be too short.
However, I saw the show after reading the book, so I didn't see him during the reading. I had no real-life image.
Major Briggs is an interesting pick, but he was too sympathetic for me. Too warm.

@AubreyDeLosDestinos@101010.pl I love this discussion. he was not warm to me but a man lost in an existential universe of his own making! I wish we could have this conversation for two hours on the patio this morning over coffee... I want to look up your character now. A friend of mine in the movies says that it's a mistake to read books with the cinematic imagination but I can't help it.
