Kinkaku (金閣), the reliquary hall, was finished in 1398. It was connected to Yoshimitsu's main residence by a 2-story covered walkway.
For 10 years Kitayama-dono was the political and cultural heart of the country.
Yoshimitsu retired in 1394, but held power until his death.
