Unsurprisingly water utilities are keen to see abstraction rates (the limitations of how much water they can take from underground sources) eased during the current (and future) heatwaves. The problem, is this is classic water utility short-termism; those limitations are there to ensure water tables remain sufficiently high for future use(s). This is the same short-termism that has seen pipes not repaired & leaks continuing, to save money to pay quarterly dividends. #water #politics h/t FT
